Our hotel room had a balcony to enjoy the view, plus full
sliding glass doors to enjoy the view from inside the room. Of course, I felt it was necessary to capture
ALL the views from our room, so please enjoy the view of the falls from one
sitting on the toilet. The glass
bathroom wall made for a picturesque view, but made normal bathroom activities
a bit more, well, communal.
As this was another travel day today to get us back to
Buenos Aires, after breakfast, we drove back to the airport, dropped off our
rental car, and waited for our flight in the small Iguazu airport. Now if Damon & I each have one
Achilles heal, Damon’s is his inability to deal with extreme heat, and mine is the
extreme fear of not having access to a bathroom due to what I can only guess is
having been born with a bladder the size of a peanut.
The airport did not have or chose not to turn on the AC and
was sweltering. With nowhere to go and
nowhere to sit, people just gathered by the gate generating body heat. Damon was not a happy camper until we got on
the plane. The plane ride was
uneventful; we landed on time, which was perfect because guess who needed a
restroom. But then my worst
nightmare. We sat on the tarmac for an
additional 20-25 minutes because there was a thunderstorm that somehow meant we
couldn’t get a gate. By the time we got
a gate, I could barely see straight.
Everyone crammed the aisles waiting to get off the plane and it took
close to 15 minutes for the flight team to get the jet bridge attached. By that time, I was near tears and for the
first time in my life, I pushed past about 30 people waiting in the aisle
saying only “sorry” and “bano” until I got to the lav at the front of the
plane. Hey - it’s not like I’ll ever see
any of them again!
We arrived at our hotel around 4pm – the Park Hyatt in
downtown Buenos Aires. Anyone who knows
me knows I’m a completely loyal and devoted Hyatt customer. I have top status and enough points for us to
stay for free when we travel (again, thank you Thomson Reuters) – so in we
walk, gross, sweaty, probably smelly, into this gorgeous hotel and they look up
our reservation and still treat us like royalty! We were upgraded to a room with a huge
balcony and we had a bottle of wine and a huge container of macaroons waiting
for us. I LOVE Hyatt.
We had been running around so much that we took the rest of
the afternoon to chill out. And by chill
out, I mean that both of us had our computers open and were working. It is hard to escape the life we have to go
back to… but since it was raining
outside, we didn’t feel too bad.
Our evening plans included a dinner/Tango show which was fun
to watch. The show we chose did the
evolution of Tango from the early 1900’s to present and included song, dance
and live music. It was interesting to
see how the music, clothes, hair and dance evolved over time. On our
way back to the hotel room following the show, I was experimenting in the
hallway with my version of Tango, naturally I nailed it. Damon, the ever-supportive husband, gave me a
glowing review, “that wasn’t a bad start – you stayed upright”.
